Seoul Sister

First off, let me say that this has nothing to do with the tragi-comic demise of the famous PopSeoul blog. RIP in Peace.

The title refers to my very first visit to Seoul on Friday 25th. It was…underwhelmed. I had a great day but all that I saw of Seoul was through the train window. We went to the National Museum of Korea and if there was anything else nearby, I didn’t see it. But that’s enough moaning for now – have some pictures:

<- My first view of Seoul as I exited the station…meh.

<- Playing happy families before we went in the museum, but we all felt sick from too much ice-cream! It’s me, Sohee, Geonmo and the aunt Woo Yeon – we call her Imo, which means aunt.

<- Geonmo forming a plan of attack

<- I skipped through the tools and pottery crap to get to the swords, yeah! These babies are daggers from the Old Joseon period.

<-Iron swords from the Baekje Kingdom of the Three Kingdoms period.

<- Geonmo and I….and a United Shilla Kingdom warrior

The museum was FANTASTIC but…because Koreans are slow at doing everything, I only got to see the ground floor! Argh! They said we’ll go back another day, which is great, but NOT TIME EFFICIENT.

I think Mrs. Sung felt really guilty about it though because she bought me a huge sashimi platter and a can of beer. For some reason they think I’m a beer  drinker…probably because I told them I am. In my defence, it was the only alcohol on offer and I was hoping it would lead to a nice glass of wine. It didn’t.

Anyway, if the weather dries up I’ll be taken to Insadong, the cultural heart of Seoul, so pray for sun!

love,

Hooray for Seoul! You can’t be time efficient in a museum, any museum worth its salt takes at least two days to do… Still no news here, we live very boring lives.

True, true. And to be honest, the only other part I really wanted to see was the Japanese Culture section! I suppose I can wait until I actually GO to Japan for that… ;)
